Why custom

A kitchen designed for you

Ready-made kitchens rarely use the space fully. A custom kitchen starts from your room and the way you cook.

01

Every centimetre

We use corners, niches and awkward areas — no dead space.

02

Made to suit you

Heights and layout that suit your everyday work in the kitchen.

03

Freedom of style

Matt, gloss, wood, marble — colours, doors and worktops of your choice.

Types of kitchens

What kind of custom kitchen we can make

We design the kitchen around the shape of the room and the way you cook. These are the solutions we make most often in Sofia.

01

Straight kitchen

All the units along one wall — suitable for narrower rooms, studios and kitchens open to the living room.

02

Corner (L-shaped) kitchen

Uses two walls meeting in a corner and gives more worktop. The most popular choice.

03

U-shaped kitchen

Units along three walls — maximum storage and working space in more spacious kitchens.

04

Kitchen with an island or breakfast bar

An island or breakfast bar for eating and preparing food, when the kitchen is open to the living room.

05

Small kitchens

Solutions for small kitchens and studios where every centimetre is used — wall units up to the ceiling, hidden appliances.

06

Tall appliance units

Built-in tall units for the oven, microwave and fridge — a cleaner look and more storage.

About us

Custom kitchens in Sofia – who you will be working with

Mebeli Sofia is a furniture company in Sofia with its own workshop. We design, make and install custom kitchens, wardrobes and furniture ourselves, so one team is responsible for the whole project rather than a chain of middlemen. We have more than 8 years of experience.

This page is for people who prefer to read and talk in English – whether you have moved to Sofia, bought an apartment here or are renovating a home you rent out. You can call us or message us on Viber in English: we will discuss your idea, arrange the measuring visit and answer your questions about the quote.

We work all over Sofia – in panel blocks, older brick buildings and new developments. Every kitchen is 100% made to order: nothing mass-produced, nothing “roughly right”. That is why the first step is always a free measuring visit and the second a 3D design, in which you see your future kitchen before we start making it.

Kitchen types

What kinds of custom kitchens we make

We choose the layout to suit the room and the way you cook. These are the solutions we make most often in Sofia:

  • Straight kitchen – all units along one wall. Good for narrow rooms, studios and kitchens open to the living room.
  • L-shaped (corner) kitchen – uses two walls and gives more worktop. The most popular choice in apartments.
  • U-shaped kitchen – units along three walls for maximum storage and working space in larger kitchens.
  • Kitchen with an island or breakfast bar – when the kitchen is open to the living room and you want a place to eat or cook facing your guests.
  • Small kitchens – solutions for compact kitchens and studios: wall units up to the ceiling, hidden appliances, no wasted centimetre.
  • Tall units for appliances – built-in oven, microwave and fridge for a cleaner look and more storage.

Layout

How to choose the layout of your kitchen

The layout should follow the room, not a nice picture from the internet. A few rules of thumb:

  • Narrow, long kitchen or studio – a straight kitchen, often with a tall unit for the fridge and oven at one end.
  • Most apartment kitchens – L-shaped. It gives the most worktop and storage and keeps the middle free.
  • Wide kitchen (roughly 2.4 m or more) – U-shaped, with units along three walls.
  • Open-plan kitchen in a new build – an L-shaped kitchen with a breakfast bar, or a kitchen with an island that separates the zones without a wall.

At the measuring visit we note where the pipes, ventilation shaft, windows and radiator are, and then show you 2–3 options for the same room in 3D. We choose together, so you can see which option works best in everyday life, not just on paper.

Custom or ready-made

Why a custom kitchen rather than a ready-made one

Ready-made kitchens come in standard modules – 40, 60, 80 cm. A room is almost never an exact multiple of those sizes, so you end up with filler panels, “dead” corners and a gap above the wall units that only collects dust. A custom kitchen works the other way round – it starts from your room:

  • It uses every centimetre – units up to the ceiling, in niches, around pipes, columns and shafts.
  • It is made for you – worktop height to suit the people who cook, drawers where you actually need them, appliances at a comfortable height.
  • It looks like part of the home – fronts, worktop and handles in the colour and style you want, which matters most when the kitchen is open to the living room.
  • It lasts longer – quality carcasses, carefully applied edging and Blum hardware with a lifetime guarantee.

A ready-made kitchen makes sense when the room is completely standard and price is the only criterion. In every other case a custom kitchen is better value over the years, because it uses the space fully and stays practical for longer.

Process

How it works – from the first call to installation

A kitchen project usually goes through four stages, with the same contact person throughout:

  1. Measuring. We come to your address in Sofia within 24 hours of your call and take exact measurements. This is free.
  2. 3D design and quote. We prepare a 3D design of the kitchen and a detailed written quote. Changes to the design before production are free – feel free to try other colours, handles or layouts.
  3. Manufacture. We make the kitchen in our own workshop – usually in 2–4 weeks after the design and contract are approved, depending on the size of the job.
  4. Installation. We deliver, carry everything up to your flat and install it. Fitting usually takes a day or two, depending on the size of the kitchen.

We state the exact timeframe in the quote and write it into the contract. If you have a deadline – moving in, the end of a renovation, family arriving – tell us at the start and we will plan backwards from it.

Prices

How much does a custom kitchen cost in Sofia?

Our custom kitchens start from €1,000 per linear metre. A linear metre is the length of the kitchen along the wall and includes both base and wall units. The smallest kitchens – around 3 m along one wall – start from around €3,000.

  • Straight kitchen, 3.0 m – from around €3,000.
  • L-shaped kitchen, 2.4 m + 1.8 m = 4.2 m – from around €4,200.
  • U-shaped kitchen, 2.0 + 3.0 + 2.0 = 7.0 m – from around €7,000.

These are starting prices with standard materials. The final price depends on the fronts (laminate, matt MDF, gloss MDF, veneer), the worktop (laminate, quartz, granite), the number of drawers and mechanisms, tall appliance units, lighting, and an island or breakfast bar if there is one – those are priced separately.

You get the exact price after the free measuring visit and 3D design, as an itemised quote with no hidden costs. Payment is in two parts – before manufacture starts and after installation is finished; the amounts are set out in writing in the quote.

What’s included

What is included in the price – and what is not

The price of a custom kitchen covers the whole journey from idea to finished kitchen:

  • measuring on site and the 3D design;
  • materials for the carcasses, fronts and worktop as per the design;
  • manufacture in our own workshop;
  • delivery, carrying up to your flat and installation in Sofia.

Appliances, the sink and the tap are usually not included – you choose them separately, and we leave exact spaces for them and build them in during installation. We spell all of this out in the quote so there are no surprises.

If you would rather not look for several tradespeople, on request we can also handle the plumbing and electrical work for the kitchen and supply appliances from leading brands together with the kitchen. Then you have one contractor and one person responsible for the result. Appliance models and the cost of this work are agreed in advance in the quote.

If you have already chosen your appliances, just send us the model numbers – we will design the openings to their exact dimensions.

Types of home

Kitchens for panel blocks, brick buildings and new builds in Sofia

We build kitchens in very different homes across Sofia, and each type has its own quirks.

Panel blocks. Kitchens in Lyulin, Mladost, Druzhba, Nadezhda and Ovcha Kupel are often small, with a ventilation shaft, pipes and a radiator in awkward places. We design around them, take the wall units up to the ceiling and use narrower modules where needed – so everything fits without the kitchen looking crowded.

Brick buildings and older blocks. In the Centre, Lozenets and Iztok the walls are rarely straight, the corners are not exactly 90° and the ceilings are high. We measure on site and absorb the differences so they don’t show – and a high ceiling is a chance to add another row of cabinets.

New builds. In the new neighbourhoods the kitchen is usually open to the living room and has to look like furniture. The most important thing here is to design the kitchen before the electrical and plumbing work, so that sockets and pipes end up in the right places. More on this on our apartment furnishing page.

Island and bar

Kitchens with an island or breakfast bar

In new apartments in Sofia the kitchen is more and more often open to the living room. The island or bar then becomes the centre of the home – a place for breakfast, for cooking while facing your guests, and a boundary between kitchen and living room without a wall.

  • Breakfast bar (peninsula) – an extension of an L-shaped kitchen, attached to it. A good choice when space is limited.
  • Island – a free-standing unit in the middle. It needs clear space around it – usually at least around 90–120 cm on each side.
  • What can go into an island – a sink, a hob, a dishwasher, drawers, a wine cabinet or simply a large worktop with room for stools.

Islands and bars are priced separately from the linear metres of the kitchen. In the 3D design you see how they sit in the room and whether there is enough space to walk around – before anything is made.

Lighting and appliances

Lighting and built-in appliances

A good kitchen is designed around its appliances and lighting, so we plan them from the first design:

  • Tall unit for oven and microwave – at eye level, so you don’t have to bend down.
  • Built-in fridge – behind a front that matches the other units, for a calm look.
  • Dishwasher next to the sink – always beside it and never in the corner.
  • Cooker hood – built into a wall unit, wall-mounted or ceiling-mounted, depending on where the hob is.
  • LED lighting under the wall units – even light across the whole worktop, without shadows. We plan the hidden power supply in advance.
  • Lighting inside cabinets and display units – optional, as an accent in the evening.

When appliances are chosen before the design, the openings and tall units are made to fit them exactly. If you choose appliances after the kitchen is made, they often don’t fit and the units have to be reworked.

Materials

Fronts and worktops – how to choose

The fronts and the worktop decide how the kitchen looks and how easy it is to look after. We choose materials together with you at the measuring visit – to suit your budget and requirements.

Fronts:

  • Laminate – the most affordable, resistant to knocks and scratches, in many colours and wood decors.
  • Matt MDF – a smooth surface with no visible edges, a modern and calm look. The most popular choice.
  • Gloss MDF – reflects light and makes a small kitchen feel bigger. Needs a little more care.
  • Veneer and wood – natural texture and warmth, often as an accent: a tall unit, an island or the base row.

Worktops:

  • Laminate – affordable and practical, in many decors.
  • Quartz and engineered stone – very resistant to stains and scratches, with a uniform colour.
  • Granite and marble – natural stone, every worktop is unique. Granite is exceptionally hard-wearing.

If you are torn between MDF and chipboard: MDF gives a smooth surface and paints well, which is why it is often chosen for fronts, while chipboard is the more affordable option.

Guarantee

Blum hardware and a 10-year guarantee – why it matters

Kitchens with a 2-year guarantee are common on the market. We give a 10-year guarantee on workmanship under normal use and a lifetime guarantee on Blum hardware. That is not marketing – it follows from the way we work:

  • Our own workshop – we don’t resell someone else’s work, so we answer for every detail.
  • Quality materials and edging – especially around the sink and dishwasher, where moisture is the main enemy.
  • Hardware – Austrian Blum with a lifetime guarantee and proven German hardware: soft-close hinges and runners. They are used every day, so we don’t cut corners on them.
  • Installation by the same team that designed the kitchen – no outside fitters.
  • One person in charge – if you need anything, even years later, you know whom to call.

We are rated 5.0 on Google by real customers – you can read the reviews (in Bulgarian).

Preparation

What to prepare before the measuring visit

You don’t need to have everything ready, but the more we know beforehand, the more accurate the first design will be:

  • Photos and rough measurements of the kitchen – you can send them in advance on Viber.
  • The developer’s floor plan, if it is a new build. We can make an initial design from the plan, but for production we always measure on site: real dimensions almost always differ from the drawing by a few centimetres.
  • Appliance models, if you have chosen them – especially the fridge, oven and dishwasher.
  • Examples of kitchens you like – pictures from the internet or from our projects.
  • A rough budget and timeframe – so we can suggest suitable materials straight away.

We work every day from 7:30 to 22:30, including Saturdays and Sundays, and come for the measuring visit within 24 hours.

Mistakes

The most common mistakes when ordering a kitchen

  • A price “over the phone” without measuring. It almost always changes later. The real price comes after measuring on site.
  • Comparing only the total. Two quotes with the same price can be for completely different materials and hardware. Compare them line by line.
  • Saving on hardware. Hinges and runners are used every day – cheap hardware is the first thing to fail.
  • Choosing appliances after the kitchen. Then they don’t fit the openings and the units have to be reworked.
  • Hob or oven in the corner. Nowhere to put a pan down, and the doors clash.
  • Electrics and plumbing before the kitchen design. A common problem in new builds: sockets and pipes end up where the furniture should be.
  • No 3D design. Mistakes only show up during installation, when they are late and expensive to fix.

All of these are avoided with one step – measuring and a 3D design before work starts. With us, both are free and come with no obligation.

Care

How to keep your kitchen looking new

A custom kitchen is made to last for many years, but a few simple habits help a lot:

  • Wipe up water straight away around the sink and dishwasher – especially on the edges and the worktop.
  • Don’t let dishwasher steam go straight onto the worktop – wait a little before opening it after the programme.
  • Soft cloth and a mild cleaner for the fronts – no abrasive sponges or harsh chemicals, especially on gloss.
  • Hot pans on a trivet if the worktop is laminate. Quartz and granite are more resistant, but a trivet is still a good idea.
  • Door adjustment – if a door drops over time, don’t force it. Call us – adjustment is quick.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

How much does a custom kitchen cost in Sofia?

Custom kitchens start from €1,000 per linear metre, and the smallest kitchens from around €3,000. The final price depends on size, layout, materials and hardware. We come to your address free of charge, take exact measurements and give you a clear quote before any work starts – with no hidden costs.

Can I speak to you in English?

Yes. Call us or message us on Viber in English – we will discuss your idea, the measuring visit and the quote in English.

How long does it take to make?

Manufacture and installation take 2 to 4 weeks in total depending on the size and complexity of the project. We give you the exact timeframe in the quote, before work starts.

Are the measuring visit and 3D design free?

Yes. Measuring at your address and the 3D design with a quote are always free and come with no obligation – you only pay if you decide to go ahead with us.

Are delivery and installation included?

Yes. Delivery, carrying up to your flat and installation in Sofia are included in the price, at no extra cost.

What guarantee do you give?

A 10-year guarantee on workmanship under normal use and a lifetime guarantee on Blum hardware.

How is a linear metre calculated for an L-shaped kitchen?

The lengths of both sides along the walls are added together. A 2.4 m + 1.8 m kitchen is about 4.2 linear metres. Islands and breakfast bars are priced separately.

Can I see the kitchen before it is made?

Yes. Before production you get a free 3D design showing the layout, colours and lighting. Changes at this stage are free.

Are appliances included in the price?

Usually not – appliances, sink and tap are chosen separately, and we leave exact spaces for them and build them in during installation. On request we can supply appliances from leading brands together with the kitchen. We clarify everything in the quote.

Do you do the plumbing and electrics for the kitchen?

Yes, if you would like us to – we take care of the plumbing and electrical work for the kitchen. Scope and cost are agreed in the quote.

How does payment work?

Payment is in two parts – before manufacture starts and after installation is finished; the amounts are set out in writing in the quote, with no hidden costs.

Do you make kitchens for panel-block apartments?

Yes. We design around the pipes, shaft and radiator and take the wall units up to the ceiling so no space is wasted.

Can I have a handleless kitchen?

Yes. We make kitchens with hidden handles, with a profile along the top edge of the front or with a push-to-open system. It is a common choice for kitchens open to the living room.

Which is better for a kitchen – MDF or chipboard?

It depends on your budget and requirements – we choose materials together at the measuring visit. MDF gives a smooth surface and paints well, so it is often chosen for fronts, while chipboard is the more affordable option. Hardware is Blum with a lifetime guarantee.

Can I send a plan or photos in advance?

Yes. Send the floor plan, measurements or photos of the room on Viber to +359 89 731 2930 – the visit and quote will be faster.

All of Sofia – Lyulin, Mladost, Lozenets, Vitosha, Iztok, the Centre, the new neighbourhoods and every other district. We come for measuring within 24 hours.

Can I see material samples before ordering?

Yes. We bring samples of doors, worktops and colours to the measuring visit. You choose on the spot, and the 3D design is made to the exact measurements and the colours you picked.

Do you remove the old kitchen and do plumbing and electrics?

Yes. If needed, we remove the old kitchen, and where necessary we also do the plumbing and electrical work for the new one – all from one contractor.

Do you work with companies and issue invoices?

Yes. We also work with companies and issue invoices.

What does the guarantee not cover?

The guarantee covers defects in the materials and hardware. It does not cover mechanical damage or water damage – for example a broken worktop or material swollen by water.

Can I order if I am abroad at the moment?

You can start from a distance – send us the floor plan and photos on Viber. Measuring is done on site in Sofia on a day and time that suit you, and you approve the 3D design before manufacture starts.
